Well I have all my tobacco in for the year now. I held up my end of the bargain and took the amigos out to eat tonight. I negotiated with them that when they finished putting in my six acres, I would take them out to eat. For some reason, they wanted to go to butterbees there in mt. orab so that is where we went. They seem to like chicken wings, or alitas, as they are called in spanish. It was kind of funny, only one of them can read english, so the other three order whatever he gets. I am also find it interesting that people are surprised that I speak spanish as well as I think they do. I speak spanish, better than most people in brown or highland county could begin ti imagine, but still have plenty to learn. I can learn and remember most of the vocabulary they tell me, but have forgotten most of the verb tense conjugations I learned in high school. The main annoyance I have with peoples surprise at my ability is how surprised they are. I most seem terribly dumb walking around and being myself. It would seem people have low expectations for me.
Money wise, I should do pretty well on this years crop. Last year the tobacco didn't cure out right and I couldn't sell all of it. This year, the tobacco seemed to have a heavy leaf and we didn't put it in the barn quite as tight. If I can get more than the 13 grand from my share that I did last year I will be happy. Most of that I will have to spend of labor, but it will still be a good year.
I am a little apprehensive about subbing tomorrow. The teacher I am subbing for is coming in for a surprise visit. She has an inside person in a half sister being a teachers assistant for one of my classes, and I don't think I am getting a favorable report. The TA person is ready to beat all the kids in the class, so I will have to wait and see what happens.
