hopefully the only time I don't get a cab.

I have decided to describe the events of the night that I should have gotten a DUI. One day during grad school, a thunderstorm went through columbus and knocked out most of the power around campus. I didn't notice anything until after class because OSU has its own electric system and was still working. I bought some nachos from the mexican place on the way home and ate when I got back. I did take a picture of a telephone pole that fell down right between two cars on norwich. Anyways, when I got back to my house on northwood, our electric was back on and well. Our friend who lived a couple of streets away didn't have any electric so she came over to drink and socialize with me and my two roommates, like what happened any other day of the week anyways. They went and got some food from raising canes, and we stayed at the house and drank some beers.

We eventually decided to go to Nyoh's, our favorite country music bar. Either me or my bearded roommate drove my explorer to Nyohs's. Nyohs's was about a 5 minute drive with all the traffic of columbus. My explorer was a 5 speed so drivers for it were limited. We usually tried to get there before 9 so the cover was cheaper. I think it was a thursday night because the weekend seemed to come right after this night. Anyways, my two roommates got enough to drink and took a cab home earlier. Two of our other friends were going to give me and my lady friend a ride home, but we started drinking liquid dope and told them we would get a cab home at closing time. At any rate, we drank about four pitchers of liquid dope on top of the usual amount of beers before closing time.

This girl could drink with any of the guys, but we were both good and liquored up when the lights came on. I had her purse on my shoulder and closed her tab out while she was talking to some older dudes hanging out at the bar. We finally got outside and were waiting on a cab for about 20 minutes when we decided that walking might be a better idea. We walked for a while before she started falling over a whole bunch. She eventually fell in a park on some grass and passed out. I tried picking her up once or twice but it didn't do any good so layed down beside her the other direction so that our feet were opposite directions. Eventually she woke up and we were talking for a while and laying in the grass still. She also made a move and started to kiss me, which went on for a minute or two. Then she snapped out of it, got up, realized where she was and wanted to keep on moving. So we walked a bit the wrong way, but still were getting closer to our houses. She eventually fell down again somewhere and I laid down also and took a nap. The spot we were in was near a parking garage, and when some cars started coming in, I woke up and decided that we needed to be somewhere else. She was very confused about where we were. I told her which way we needed to go to get back to campus, but she wanted to go back the other way, which would have been towards my car. I decided that maybe we should go back to my car.

I am not sure if I thought I was going to drive home or if we were going to get some sleep in the car until daylight. At any rate we walked back to my car. She got entertained by jumping in puddles and talking about tennessee, where she was from. I eventually decided that I could drive home and made it back to her place without to any traffic, or red lights, or police surveillance. I drove with the windows down and stayed in low gear the entire way. I drove on the main highways as much as I could have. I got to her place and got her to her door when we had some more problems. We managed to lose her phone, house keys and camera somewhere along the way. She pounded on her neighbors door who had a spare set of keys for her place and got her in and went back to my car. I probably should have left my car there, but got back in and drove back to my place a couple of blocks away. By the time I got back home, it was after 4:30 am.

I woke back up at 10:30, told my roommate I drove home last night and left to try and see if I could find some of the things we lost of hers in that park. On my way out of the alley, I caught up with her steaming mad, wearing the same clothes and wondering what the hell happened the night before. I told her everything except about us making out. This pacified her a bit. We drove to the park and walked around for a while, hitting the spots I remembered passing out at. We didn't find any of her stuff, but she did talk to the park management and got it all back a couple days later. I did find her credit card in my pocket after I got back to my house and checked my pockets.

That day my other roommate and I went to the videogame store and I bought a copy of the 40 year old virgin. He bought a ds lite, and the new super mario brothers game. We went back to the house, drank a case of beer, watched the 40 year old virgin, and then our lady friend had her girlfriend call us to invite us over for some drinks before going out for some more drinks. I had told him what happened and he convinced me not to tell her about the making out part. Luckily for me, she is one of those girls who claims not to remember anything after drinking to much. This is also a girl who got kicked out of a bar an hour and a half after its grand opening for dancing on the bar and flipping of the bartender. I eventually also told my bearded roommate and he convinced me that not saying anything would be better for all involved. It turned out well, she had a boyfriend at the time who was working in florida while she went to grad school. I went to their wedding last summer and all seems well.

In retrospect, I am very lucky I did not crash my car into someone or something. Getting a DUI is not a good move for an aspiring teacher. I felt that I should have told her more, but my two roommates were going to grad school with her and we decided that it would not be a good idea. I had been broken up with my last girlfriend about a month or two at the time. They sometimes made jokes about it when she wasn't around and it would confuse our other group of lady friends who didn't have very many details. About two months later I moved out and started teaching at my alma matter high school.

  1. Mmm... Raising Canes. I love that place. I've never been to Nyoh's but I have some friends that go there a lot.
