6 months to get it done

Well, I now have six months to complete my grad school work. Sure, I could take longer, but I paid my tuition today and am good for the next six months. If I have more work to do after that six months, I have to pay out of my pocket again.

I do like the convenience of online schooling, but have to wonder if I should have pursued another school. My problem is that I want to become certified to teach physical sciences and most likely don't have enough of those credits from Ohio State. If I had went to some nearby school for graduate work, I would have to drive a couple of days a week and complete all my work. This would be on top of my farming obligations that grandpa and dad try their hardest to keep me available for. The new school would also want me to take more science courses, or change to life sciences or something of that nature.

At any rate, I have to buckle up and get to studying at least 4 hours per day. I need to have my prospectus done by october so I can be in a classroom by november. The most immediate item to complete are the literature reviews of PBL articles that I have read. I then have to complete a timeline and some other forms to make progress.

I don't know if the masters requirement for teachers is worthwhile. On the teachers end, you make a bigger salary if you have that degree. It can hinder you from a job, some school districts will hire a cheaper candidate if all other considerations are equal. I am beginning to think that states should be like florida and hire any person with a four year degree who has a desire to teach. Any person who stays in a subject area long enough will become a good teacher in that area. As long as they have a desire to succeed and do what it good for the students, results should happen. Sure some teachers get to the point where they are just waiting to retire and are phoning it in, but a principals job is to make sure teachers are doing their jobs, not be friends with underperforming comrades.

With all the stories about inappropriate conduct with minors in the news, are schools always making the right hire? It is hard to know that a person will always show restraint and do the right thing. Administration probably does take factors other than qualifications into consideration.

Also, I just ordered two kings of leon concert tickets for saturday october 10th at rupp arena. I might have ordered four tickets, but doubt I have three other friends that want to go. I asked my brother in law and sister if they were fans and didn't get much of a response. I am looking forward to going to a concert of a new band. Hopefully it will be a bit of a rainy day and I can get away from farm activities without to much complaining from my dad and grandpa.
