Today was Palm Sunday in the catholic church. Per tradition, we started mass by going out of the church, being handed a palm leaf and commencing mass out of the regular church confines. One of my favories parts of the Palm Sunday service is the retelling of the Passion of the Christ. I brought my palm leaf home and put in over my doorway with the one I got last year this weekend.
I have never seen the Mel Gibson movie, for no good reason at all, but I have a different reason for liking the Passion. One of the things that we did in my old parish was an acting of the Passion, that was put on by the youth group. My freshman and sophomore year I didn't play very big parts, but I stepped it up some for my junior and senior years. I played Jesus those last two years and can remember many of the lines from that role. It was a bit of an untstated rule that one of the male seniors took on the role of Jesus, but after signups none of the fellers ahead of me had signed up. After about five seconds of thought, I volunteered and then went ahead and then recommited my senior year. At first I was a bit intimidated by playing a role that had so many lines. The narrator had more lines, but they got to use their script the whole time. All in all I was glad I was able to do it for those two years. I learned more than I would have if I didn't do that role, and became a source of inspiration. For the next 7 of the 8 years, either me or my brothers played Jesus in the play. I was the role for two years, Glenn was for three years, and my youngest brother was for the three years after Glenn graduated. It kind of worked out funny with my brothers, whenever one of us was a senior, the other was a freshman.
Next weekend marks the end of the Lent season and we are going to have dinner at my grandparents down the street. I have succesfully given up FB'ing for Lent, but did find a technicallity once. My brother used my computer once and I got back on and viewed my page, logged in as him. So while I was on FB, I wasn't technically individually logged in so it didn't count that way. I was mainly worried about what my youngest brother and his buddy had put on there about me giving up FB for Lent and getting raped by the government this year, but it was relatively tame.
