Today I got to do something that I did about 51 weeks ago, therefore making it a yearly tradition. I burnt up a bunch of garbage from the greenhouse on a pile of brush that I accumulated in the past year. I think I was able to burn most of it up this year, I even worked over most of it to throw in the brush that didn't get burned up the first go through. The only thing is that I still need to go through my yard to pick up branches that fell over the fall and winter. I will probably also take a chainsaw to some of my trees that give me the most trouble when mowing also.
Last year I did this burning on the warmest day of the year up to that point. I was able to wear shorts outside that day last march. I started the fire in much the same manner, burning some garbage from the greenhouse. Only last year, the grass around was much drier and I found out that it was able to spread more than I wanted. The fired ended up burning down some tall weeds and would have made it to the road if I didn't put it out in that direction. In the other direction the fire found plenty of dry stuff to burn. An old fence post burned up in an interesting way. The inside of it was hollowed out and the embers were coming out the top like a mini volcano. The fire caught one tree on fire and burned out the base of the tree and it eventually fell over. I had to stay up all night and eventually rounded up some houses from the greenhouse to put the fire out. If I hadn't done that, the fire would have spread to my neighbors fence and caught who know what else on fire.
The fire was really a bit of a catharsis that day also. I found out that day that the estate from my deceased landlord was going up for auction in april. That meant I could and should be looking for a new home within the next month. An auction is not a very certain thing when it concerns your housing. If I remember correctly, I also found out some encouraging news at that time last year. I have mentioned on this blog before that I got nosy one day and ended up finding a blog that I probably shouldn't have been reading. Well anyways, I read on the blog that this girl had recently quit seeing whomever it was she was seeing, which would seeminlgy open up the door for me. As it turns out, her availability didn't allow any room for me to be an vialbe option, but it was encouraging to read about at the time.
I also had some things on my mind today when I was burning my garbage. I'm still mulling them over and they will show up in some later posts.
I also have to wonder about these so called "UC" fans. While I haven't been on FB to show my support for my buckye basketball team, I can't help but notice all the noise about UC being so great doesn't apply to their mediocore basketball team. It would seem that the basketball team was the point of pride for the school for many years, and now the role has reversed. I am a fan of nearly all OSU sports, but really just apply that fandom to the football and basketball teams, the most visible sports of the school. If everyone had such a hard on for UC back when the football team was having such a great season, why aren't they on the bandwagon now? Why is UC suddenly not worth them cheering for or wearing around t shirts saying they are the best team in Ohio? Its because UC is second rate and so are there fans. I don't even remember seeing UC stuff at many of the basketball games this winter. I almost always wear OSU paraphernalia when I go out, it is called school pride.
